<p><strong>Resumo:</strong> O artigo revê a interpretação, consagrada pela História Literária, acerca do surgimento de um movimento anti-Romântico na Província de Santa Catarina durante a década de 1880. Nele, relativiza-se a importância tradicionalmente atribuída ao presidente Francisco Luiz da Gama Rosa para a constituição do chamado “Grupo da Ideia Nova” e propõe-se uma explicação conjuntural para a emergência dessa formação em Desterro.</p><p><strong>Palavras-chave:</strong> Desterro – Geração de 1870 – Ideia Nova.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Abstract: </strong>The article reassesses the interpretation, consecrated by the Literary History, about the emergence of an anti-romantic movement in theProvince ofSanta Catarina in the 1880s. In the article, the importance traditionally attributed to President Francisco Luiz da Gama Rosa to the formation of the so-called "Ideia Nova" group is relativized and is proposed a conjectural explanation about their emergence in Desterro.</p><p><strong>Keywords: </strong>Desterro – 1870's Generation – Ideia Nova.</p>
