The Pseudepigrapha and Josephus’ Writings

Abstract
This chapter deals with the relationship between Josephus and the Jewish Hellenistic writers and with the ancient Semitic biblical rewritings such as the Book of Jubilees. It explores the question of Josephus’ sources and whether he knew any of the works that we now catalog as Pseudepigrapha. This investigation shows that Josephus’ description of the historical, religious, and sociological contexts of Judaism in his time may help to better identify the origin and religious affiliation of the Pseudepigrapha.
