Abstract
The conclusion summarizes key aspects of Shadd Cary’s writings and activism. It also discusses the relationship between Shadd Cary’s interior life and her public-facing work. In so doing, it describes how her conflicts with the agents of the Refugee Home Society negatively impacted her personal life and her relationship with a key funder, the American Missionary Association. Next, the conclusion explains how Shadd Cary’s disorderly distributed archive complicates attempts to comprehend her interior life and her intellectual thought. It identifies opportunities to continue research into Shadd Cary through Black digital humanities. Then the conclusion analyzes the implications of Shadd Cary’s work for how scholars interpret nineteenth-century Black women’s radicalism.
