Harmonizing Vastu Shashtra Principles into Modern Architecture
View through CrossRef
Traditional architecture often treats buildings as static objects, but Vastu Shastra views them as living extensions of the human body. Unlike modern architectural approaches that focus strictly on wind and sun, Vastu organizes the entire interior layout to balance the five elements (Earth, Water, Air, Fire, and Space). Vastu-shastra, on the other hand, is more concerned with how to maximize the surrounding environment by strategically positioning rooms (for a specific function) in addition to the general layout of the building. According to the vastu-shastra, the ground, the building, and the interior rooms must all be positioned correctly. The relationship between the man and his body, the building, and the outside world is explained in detail. Thus, this extends beyond architecture and design. People who live in a building are the "material" that understands and perceives the vasthu associated with the surroundings. The shortcomings of our current approach are mentioned. One example would be the inclusion of a central open garden, which is a highly practical way to provide decent living conditions inside a structure in tropical nations like ours and is overlooked in modern approaches. Scientifically, this is incorrect. In actuality, this clause applied to every structure in our nation before the turn of the century, including homes. This study highlights the shortcomings of our current conventional approach and how vastu has overcome them to provide a safe and comfortable living environment.
Title: Harmonizing Vastu Shashtra Principles into Modern Architecture
Description:
