A Study of HRCT Temporal Bone in Patients with Cholesteatoma in Attico-Antral Chronic Otitis Media

View through CrossRef
Background: The presence of keratinizing squamous epithelium within the temporal bone is a characteristic of cholesteatoma, a devastating disease of the middle ear. Cholesteatoma can cause cerebral problems, labyrinthine fistula, ossicular damage, and involvement of the facial nerve in individuals with attico-antral chronic otitis media. The temporal bone's High-Resolution Computed Tomography (HRCT) is frequently utilized for preoperative evaluation and surgical planning. Methods: In cooperation with the Department of ENT at Pacific Institute of Medical Sciences, Udaipur, the Department of Radiodiagnosis will carry out this prospective observational cohort research. HRCT temporal bone examinations will be performed on seventy individuals who have been clinically diagnosed with cholesteatoma. Assessments will be made of the degree of illness, ossicular erosion, scutum erosion, involvement of the facial canal, labyrinthine fistula, tegmen erosion, and mastoid status. To assess diagnostic accuracy, intraoperative and HRCT results will be compared. Anticipated Outcomes: HRCT is anticipated to exhibit excellent sensitivity and specificity in identifying related bone erosions and consequences, finding cholesteatoma, and determining the degree of the illness. Conclusion: In patients with cholesteatoma linked to attico-antral chronic otitis media, HRCT temporal bone is expected to be a crucial imaging modality for preoperative assessment and surgical planning.
