attitude, and practice patterns by using tools commonly condensed as AI performing functions that require human cognitive functions. AI provides essential insights into the medical community’s readiness to adopt emerging digital technologies within the healthcare systems. The aim of the study is to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and patterns of practice of AI among physicians in Karbala city.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Karbala governorate. It utilized a validated and structured questionnaire mainly focusing on demographic factors, knowledge, attitude, and practice framework. A convenient sampling method was employed to select 326 physicians. Data collection was done with a web-based questionnaire and paper-based questionnaires.
Results: Most participants had poor to moderate knowledge of AI, although most were familiar with the general concept of AI and its applications, such as Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) and Electronic Health Record analysis. The overall attitude was positive, with the majority preferring its integration into the medical field. The study results also showed that males who owned a personal computer had a high level of knowledge and practical application.
Conclusions: This study showed that healthcare professionals in Karbala have a positive attitude towards AI, although this is not related to a lack of knowledge or weak practical training. This creates a gap between knowledge and real-world application.
