Sustaining Nature Through Poetry: Analysing ‘Birds’ Between IBN Zaydun and Ahmad Shawqi

Objective: The objective of this study was to explore how nature has always contributed into poetry and vice versa, how poetry brings about the awareness on the importance of nature to life, contributing to sustainable development goal (SDG) 15-Life on Land.   Theoretical Framework: This study was grounded on the Ecocriticism Theoretical Framework,  allowing a deep exploration of nature in poetry, as well as the specific function and meaning of natural imagery within literary works.   Method: The methodology adopted for this research comprises rules and standards of Al-Amidi's Dialectical Approach, the practical and theoretical aspects of Russian Formalism Literary Analysis.   Results and Discussion: The results obtained revealed that the poetic imagery of both poets, Ibn Zaydun and Ahmed Shawqi , highlight how nature’s creatures can symbolize a deeper human connection. By using birds as symbols of longing, freedom, and identity, they provided timeless metaphors that encourage modern readers to reflect on their own relationship with the environment.   Research Implications: The poetry of Ibn Zaydun and Ahmed Shawqi presents a cultural and emotional framework that ties in human identity with nature contributing to themes of SDG 15- nature. Their works suggest that the the relationship between man and the environment are at the core of both the natural world and human societies.   Originality/Value: This study looks at how poets, through their symbolic representations of birds, open up in literature a route for fostering ecological consciousness and spreading inspiration toward sustainable development goal (SDG) 15, adding to the much-needed broader dialogue on environmental stewardship and the protection of biodiversity.
