Creolizing Frankensteindissects and critically appreciates Mary Shelley’s 200-year old novel. Contributors advance two claims: first, this story is the product of creolization—the intentional conglomeration of a variety of scientific, mythological, political, religious, gender, educational, historical, and racial discourses. Second, they trace the ways in whichFrankensteinhas creolized itself into modern and contemporary life and culture in such a way as to have become a new mythology and political statement for each generation.
