INFLUENCE OF SHARI’AH FINANCIAL PRODUCT (COST-PLUS) ON SEMI-FORMAL LENDING AND SUSTAINABLE IRRIGATION AGRICULTURE IN JIGAWA STATE, NIGERIA: A PROPOSED FRAMEWORK

The objectives of this paper is to examine the relationship between semi-formal lending and sustainable irrigation agriculture in Jigawa state. Also, to examine the influence of Shariah financial product (Cost-Plus) as a proposed model on the relationship between semi-formal lending and sustainable irrigation agriculture in Jigawa state. Since, sustainable irrigation agriculture serves as management of crops and vegetables which are sources of food, income and raw materials for human consumption and raw materials for industries as well as source of income, employment, poverty control and economic growth in Jigawa state. On the other hand, the state sustainable irrigation agriculture is reducing due to inadequate semi-formal lending which leads to the discarding of irrigation system and engaged in urban-rural migration,increasein food insecurity and manutrution among others, despite its economic role of the produce in the state and Nigerian economy. This paper proposes a model with shari’ah financial product or cost-plus or free interest product consider to be used by the financial institutions, ministry and agencies of irrigation agriculture in Jigawa state, Nigeria in order to overcome such challenges. In addition, this paper introduces cost-plus as a new variable into the study model and potential moderating variable. Also, this paper used a conceptual methodological approach.
