Family workshops on creating Easter palms from crepe at the Ethnographic Museum in Toruń. The classes were conducted under the supervision of folk artists from Kurpie - Czesława Kaczyńska and Marianna Pokora.Czesława Kaczyńska, apart from creating Kurpie palms, deals with paper cutouts, embroidery, lace and Easter eggs. She has participated in numerous individual and collective exhibitions in Poland and abroad. For years, she has been winning first prizes in competitions in the category of embroidery, cutouts and lace. She was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta and awarded with the Gloria Artis medal of the Minister of Culture.Marianna Pokora works in a primary school. She creates small and simple forms, from knitted angels and Christmas tree stars to more intricate patterns.Kurpie palms are decorated with flowers made of colorful wrapping tissue paper. The palm are prepared for Palm Sunday to remind us of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem. In Poland, where palm trees are absent and olive trees are rare, palms are most often made of willow twigs, reeds, herbs and flowers, using various techniques. Palms are blessed on Palm Sunday, carried in a procession, burned on Holy Saturday, and the following year their ashes are used on Ash Wednesday to sprinkle ashes on the heads of the faithful.
