Evaluation of Antidepressant Activity from Fragaria Ananassa

View through CrossRef
Objective: The goal of this study is to find out how Fragaria Ananassa (strawberries) affects serotonin levels and mouse immobility duration during the different tests performed in mice and evaluate antidepressant effects of FragariaAnanassa. Methods: Antidepressant effects of Fragaria Ananassa (strawberries) compared with the Standard antidepressant drugs by performing a Forced Swim Test and Tail Suspension Test on albino mice. Fragaria Ananassa was administered to two distinct groups of animals in two different dosages of 5ml and 10ml. Normal saline was given to the control group of animals and Imipramine (Standard Antidepressant) to the Standard group. Drugs were administered to the animals orally, and behavioral tests were performed 30 minutes later. Results: Fragaria Ananassa at a dose of 10 ml had a substantial anti-depressant impact by lowering immobility duration in both behavioral tests of Forced Swim and a Tail Suspension Test. Conclusion: Fragaria Ananassa at a dose of 10 ml has no significant difference from our standard antidepressant medication (Imipramine).
