Ichiyūsai Kuniyoshiga’s I様様 Iseries of Kuniyoshi with comparisons between the 54 chapters of the Genji novel (Genji monogatari I様, in the form of poems on a scroll) and historical and legendary people of Japan. The scroll shows a poem from the 7th chapter “Momiji no ga Die Die” of the Genji novel and an official hat between autumn leaves. In the picture Endō Moritō Im Im Im, who lived in the 12th century. Legend has it that he fell in love with the wife of a samurais, who, however, did not return his feelings. Threatening to kill her family, he gained access to her house at night to remove her husband. It was only after the crime that Moritō realized that he had killed his prayers instead of the rival because she had lying down unnoticed in her husband’s bed. This loyalty and confession moved him so much that he entered the monastic rank. A somewhat macabre scene: Moritō with the beveled head of the people in their hands on a staircase. Full moon night.
