Arkeologisk schaktningsövervakning, lyft av sten i trappfundament, Gustavianum, Uppsala 2006

View through Europeana Collections
During the winter of 2006, the Upplandsmuseet carried out a hunting surveillance in Akademilandand near Gustavianum. The cause was drainage work along the eastern facade of Gustavianum. The Academic Street was found in the past undocumented masonry belonging to a probably medieval building that today forms Gustavianum’s basement. The bricklayer was made of bricks with greystone foundations, preserved to varying degrees. In addition, there was evidence of what was interpreted as an opening down to the basement and a staircase to the ground floor of the building. The walls of the building, in addition to the basement, were probably demolished in connection with construction work during the 1600s. The walls did not constitute an obstacle to the drainage works and could be preserved in the Akademigaten.
