A Negative Experimental Result for the Structural Change of Benzene Crystal in the Premelting Process

View through CrossRef
The X-ray diffraction pattern of a polycrystalline sample of benzene was observed using an energy-dispersive method over a range of temperature from -20°C to 5.5°C (m.p.). A series of measurement was repeated seven times and the diffraction pattern showed no change in four of the seven series. Thus we concluded that the structural change of benzene crystal in the premelting process reported by Tohji and Murata [Jpn. J. Appl. Phys. 21 (1982) 1199] did not occur.
