Marsze i Parady Równości mają na celu zwrócenie uwagi na problem mniejszości i potrzebę przeciwdziałania dyskryminacji. Chodzi o wywołanie publicznych dyskusji, o pytanie o tolerancję. Potrzebujemy Marszów również dlatego, gdyż są one probierzem demokracji. Prowokują pytania: na ile demokratyczna jest sfera publiczna – czy jest przestrzenią nas wszystkich, czy też przestrzenią zaanektowaną przez większość? Czy nasze społeczeństwo jest na tyle dojrzałe, by do głosu mogły dojść różnice? Bo demokracja wymaga różnic i pogodzenia się z ich istnieniem.
