Terminology Development In Togo: Current Situation, Challenges And Prospects
View through CrossRef
"When Togo became an independent country, in 1960, it chose French as official language. Some years later, in order to ensure cultural promotion to the various peoples in the country, Togolese authorities chose two languages, Ewe in the southern area and Kabiye in the northern area, as part of the 1975 educational reform. This reform was successful for a while before experiencing difficulties with the start of the democratic process in the country in 1990. Since then, several language promotion sub-commissions have been set up. These sub-commissions have led terminology projects to contribute to the development of the country.
What is the linguistic planning in Togo? What characterizes terminology development in Togo? What are the impacts of the terminology development on the development of the country? What prospects for a better success of terminology development in Togo? These are the crucial questions on which this paper seeks to answer. The data for the study have been collected in Lome and in Kara."
