The Membership of SGI-USA

View through CrossRef
Abstract THE membership of Soka Gakkai has undergone considerable change during its nearly four decades in America. In this chapter, we present a demographic profile of the membership based on the 1997 survey, comparing this profile with earlier reports on the religion as well as with data on Soka Gakkai in Great Britain. Together they tell a dramatic story of the changing face of Soka Gakkai in the United States. At the time of its foundation, the membership of SGI - USA was almost exclusively Japanese. Today, Japanese members are in the minority. In both the United States and Great Britain, SGI is overwhelmingly composed of new-class Baby Boomers.
