Javier Ruiz, La nave de los locos

View through Artsy
These pieces are part of ‘La nave de los locos’, the first solo exhibition by Javier Ruiz (La Carolina, Jaén, 1989) at VETA by Fer Francés. Here Ruiz draws inspiration from the essay ‘The Feast of Fools’ by Harvey Cox. This work explores how culture uses play, laughter, and festivity as a form of escape. Similarly, in these paintings, the carefully controlled sets, with their decadent and theatrical atmosphere, contrast with grotesque characters who, for a moment, replace order with chaos.
