IMPACT OF GOVERNMENT SOCIO-ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES IN PROMOTING WOMEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN KEBBI STATE, NIGERIA

This study examines the relationship between government social and economic programmes and women entrepreneurship in Kebbi state, Nigeria, using samples of 217 registered women entrepreneurs in Kebbi state. Questionnaire and personal interview were used to collect primary data from the sampled women entrepreneurs using purposive and convenience sampling techniques. The data was analyzed and presented using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics of chi-square technique were used to test the hypothesis in order to establish the significance of the estimated relationships. The outcome reveals that government socio-economic activities have significant impact in promoting women entrepreneurship in Kebbi state and the country at large. Also, women that benefited from government entrepreneurship support programmes, their standard of living and that of their families have been improved. In order to promote women entrepreneurship and achieve significant positive contribution of women entrepreneurs to the economic development of Nigeria, the study recommends that government and relevant stakeholders should create enabling environment for the women entrepreneurs, through provision of adequate infrastructure, financial support, and improvement of marketing activities.
