Mentor in adult education. Mentor authority or authentic mentor

Mentoring is considered an innovative method in adult education and the literature recognizes its contribution to the quality of the educational work provided. A key factor for the effectiveness of mentoring practices is the mentor, the outline of this study. Applying a qualitative methodological approach, 20 semi-structured interviews were conducted with adult educators from Vocational Training Institutes (IEK), Second Chance Schools (SDEs) and Lifelong Learning Centers (KDBM) which explored the views of an adult educator. its role as well as its selection criteria. The research findings highlighted as the main qualifications of an effective mentor his training in adult education and mentoring, teaching, communication and relationship skills as well as a positive attitude in lifelong learning and a willingness to innovate. Regarding its role, adult educators perceive the effective mentor as an educator and teaching model but also as an equal partner.
