OA2090. smartHEALTH: Driving digital transformation in healthcare and public services

Abstract Background The smartHEALTH European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) is part of the European Commission’s and EU Member States’ initiative to support the digital transformation of SMEs and public sector organizations (PSOs) across Europe. Coordinated by the Institute of Computer Science at FORTH and backed by a strategic network of research, academic, and private sector partners, smartHEALTH accelerates the adoption of cutting-edge digital technologies in Greece’s healthcare sector, with a strong commitment to safety, security, and trust. Objectives As a one-stop shop, smartHEALTH offers high-value services tailored to the healthcare ecosystem, ensuring clinical safety, data integrity, and regulatory compliance: • Test Before Invest: Offers SMEs and PSOs access to demonstration / proof-of-concept, integration and testing / experimentation services using AI, HPC, and Cybersecurity in a safe, validated environment. • Skills and Training: Delivers targeted programs to healthcare professionals and public administrators covering digital health safety, cyber hygiene, and ethical use AI use. • Access to Finance: Helps organizations identify and access funding to support their digital innovation plans. • Ecosystem Building: Strengthens collaborations among stakeholders to develop secure, interoperable platforms and foster a culture of continuous safety and innovation. Results Since its launch in January 2023, smartHEALTH has (i) delivered test-before-invest services to over 80 SMEs and PSOs; (ii) organized 22 training sessions for 1,450+ participants; (iii) supported over 35 companies in accessing funding opportunities; and (iv) participated in 50+ national and European networking events. Conclusions SmartHEALTH operates within the broader network of 200+ EDIHs across Europe, contributing to Europe’s ambition for a digitally resilient, secure, and patient-centric healthcare system under initiatives like the European Health Data Space (EHDS).
