Band with Grape Vine

View through Harvard Museums
Thin tapestry woven band consisting of a vine with regularly spaced, serrated leaves. The area of solid purple at the top of the band indicates the terminus of the pattern. The ‘flying shuttle’ technique of supplementary weft wrapping creates the veins on the leaves. Warps of undyed linen. Small bits of plain woven, darker colored linen survive in a few areas on the sides of the band.
