Band with Geometric Design
View through Harvard Museums
Simple narrow tapestry woven band with red wool and undyed linen wefts. The linen wefts create the buff design along the spine of the red band. A change in pattern occurs near one end of the red band. The band narrows at the other end to only a few rows of red wool; if the band functioned as a clavus on a tunic, this section may have connected to a now lost circular or arrow-shaped pendant. Plain woven undyed linen ground survives above and below the area of tapestry weave.
