Band with Geometric Design

View through Harvard Museums
A purple, twisting narrow vine with serrated leaves runs between two bands of geometric interlace. The serrations of the leaves are exposed pairs of linen warps. The ‘flying shuttle’ technique using supplementary linen wefts creates the interlace design on top of purple woolen wefts, above and below the running vine. Areas of plain weave linen survive at the top and bottom of the band. The warps are paired in the area of weft-faced weave.
