‘Oi Asontole’- Tagore’s Influence on Rituparno: A Study of His Selected Films

Rituparno Ghosh, one of the most well-known actors and directors in the Bengali cinema industry, is regarded as Satyajit Ray's successor. Rituparno Ghosh has crafted a universe that is distinct from the Bengali world of the 1990s. People's behaviour, attire, and emotional expression in his society differed greatly from the previous communist inclinations. Rituparno Ghosh's efforts altered Bengali film in a very tangible way. As a passionate admirer of Rabindranath Tagore, the humanist Ghosh uses the idea of interpersonal relationships to convey humanism in his films. Tagore occupied a distinct place in Ghosh's life, since he was honoured in several celluloid hues. Ghosh has made movies based on Tagore's writings. The topic of Ghosh's Tagore figure changes slightly, but the setting stays the same. Ghosh steers clear of the problems with the traditional patriarchal culture and concentrates on the pressing challenges of the current day, which are forbidden and hence ignored. This paper examines Rituparno Ghosh's influence from Tagore and how Tagore's presence is portrayed in his cinematic universe.
