Nogle ord om Nationalmusik
View through CrossRef
‘A Few Words on National Music’ (‘Nogle ord om Nationalmusik’) was published in 1831, in the journal Almindeligt Norsk Maanedsskrivt, 16 years after Norway declared its independence from Denmark. It was preceded by a long editorial introduction and followed by an equally long commentary, all written by different anonymous authors, although we may assume that the editor of the journal, Jonas Anton Hielm, wrote the first text. Together they form a triptych, displaying the founding doctrines of the Romantic nationalism that strongly influenced historical and cultural development in Norway for more than one hundred years.
