MICROCLONAL REPRODUCTION OF KOK-SAGYZ (TARAXACUM KOK-SAGYZ RODIN), A PROMISING SOURCE OF NATURAL RUBBER
View through CrossRef
Natural rubber is a highly demanded raw material, widely used in the production of medical and household products, tires for aviation and military equipment. The main part of natural rubber is obtained from Hevea brasiliensis. The birthplace of hevea - Brazil - now practically does not produce rubber, all plantations there are affected by a pathogenic fungus, Microcyclus Ulei, which is still very difficult to fight. This disease, for which no effective control methods exist, infects trees before they reach their physiological maturity and destroys rubber plantations. Kok-saghyz (Taraxacum kok-saghyz Rodin) is considered to be the most promising alternative to hevea rubber [1,2]. In its roots, rubber is synthesized, which is not inferior in quality to that obtained from hevea, and its content in highly productive collection samples reaches up to 17% of the dry weight of the roots.
