Rzecz bowiem w tym, że ludzkie potrzeby, które mogą być zaspokajane tylko na drodze miłosierdzia, są wielorakie i ponadczasowe. Im większa niemoc jednostki, tym szersze otwiera się pole na uczynki miłosierdzia. The greater the weakness of the individual, the wider the field opens to the works of mercy.
