CUMULATIVE EFFECT OF VARIOUS PANCHAKARMA MODALITIES IN THE MANAGEMENT OF PAKSHAGHAT (HEMIPLEGIA) – A CASE REPORT

View through CrossRef
Pakshaghat, commonly correlated with hemiplegia, is a debilitating neurological condition often resulting from cerebrovascular accidents. A 48-year-old woman developed right-sided paralysis, slurred speech, partial memory loss, and bladder incontinence following a stroke. She initially underwent 19 days of allopathic management and was then admitted for Ayurvedic therapy. Panchakarma procedures like Udwartan (dry powder massage), Shiro-dhara (oil pouring therapy on head), Thalam (medicated paste application on scalp) Jivhapratisaran,(medicated paste application on tongue), Lepam (herbal paste application), Basti (medicated enema), and Nasya (nasal med-ication therapy), along with internal Ayurvedic medicines, were administered. Over 75 days, the patient had sig-nificant improvements in muscle strength, coordination, speech, cognitive function, and bladder control. This case demonstrates the potential of integrative Ayurvedic therapies in stroke rehabilitation. A well-structured Pan-chakarma therapy showed remarkable functional recovery within 75 days, warranting further clinical evaluation.
