Dissociative Amnesia: A Case Report

View through CrossRef
Abstract Dissociative amnesia or functional retrograde amnesia is one of the most difficult and controversial psychiatric disorder. Functional amnesia for autobiographical memory is a pathognomic sign of dissociative disorders. Here we are reporting a case of a 23 years old female who develops stress induced dissociative amnesia and could not recall the last 5 years of her life and recovery after treatment. This case report describes a patient suffering from retrograde episodic-autobiographical amnesia after a marital discord. She forgot that she was married and forgot every incident related to her marriage. Her semantic memories and social abilities were preserved. Organic causes were excluded by history, clinical examination and logical laboratory investigation. Same stress can leads to develop variable presentation in different persons.
