Folding and Spinning Behaviour of the Rice Leaf Folder Cnaphalocrocis medinalis Guenee in Rice Accessions

View through CrossRef
The present study attempts to identify resistant rice accessions against Rice leaf folder Cnaphalocrocis medinalis Guenee based on folding and spinning behaviour on selected rice accessions, including BA-5, BA-18, BA-30, BA-31, BA-80, BA-91, BA-116, BA-187, BA-193, BA-207, BA-243, BA-266, and the susceptible check TN-1. Among the 13 accessions observed, BA-207 has the highest degree of resistance traits like larvae taking more time (4.05 min) to select leaves; as compared to the susceptible check (TN-1) where it took only 0.54 min for leaf selection. Likewise, the other characters viz., primary fold length, number of binds for primary fold, number of head swings for primary fold, total time taken for primary fold, primary fold extension and number of binds in 24 hr also been observed. Each of the parameters has a positive relationship with the leaf folder infestation which makes the accessions highly resistance to the leaf folder.
