Tara Lewis "Swimmers"

View through Artsy
New painting series that challenge conventional portraiture with a unique focus on female agency and contemporary complexities of femininity. Taking cues from pop history and borrowing concepts from films and characters such as Jaws, The Lone Ranger and Venus de Milo, Lewis’ series is prompted by the idiom ‘sink or swim’. "Swimmers," a double entendre for the body of work, celebrates the energy of female power in a contemporary culture of revolving issues, stereotypes and expectations.
