Incorrigible and Delinquency among Youths in Urban Centers: A Test of Frustration–Aggression Theory

View through CrossRef
This study examined Delinquency among youths in urban centers, with a focus on the psychological and social mechanisms that mediate this association. Drawing on the Frustration–Aggression Hypothesis, General Strain Theory, and Social Learning Theory, the study employed a qualitative approach which is documentary in nature to unravel frustration – aggression amongst youth in urban communities. Data were collected using documentary design, secondary data from policy document, archives and frustration – aggression behavior amongst youth in urban communities Findings indicated that frustration was significantly associated with higher levels of aggression, with anger serving as a key mediator and emotional regulation moderating the effect. Gender differences were observed, with males displaying more physical aggression and females exhibiting relational or verbal aggression. The study highlights the interplay between structural, psychological, and social factors in shaping youth aggression and underscores the need for multidimensional interventions, including structural reforms, emotional skills training, prosocial social modeling, and gender-sensitive programming. The results have significant implications for policymakers, educators, and community stakeholders seeking to mitigate youth aggression and promote healthy development in urban environments.
