Bangla Linguistics and Abul Mansur Ahmad

There was a time when it was a matter of great debate whether Urdu or Bangla was the mother tongue of the Bengali Muslim. In the field of Bengali Language and Literature another debate was whether 'Musalmani Bangla' or 'Dhakaia Bangla should be established in replace of Kolkattia Bangla' or 'Hinduani Bangla". At that time most of the Muslim leaders, aristocrats and the elit class Bengali muslims thought that Urdu was their mother tongue. Abul Mansur Ahmad was one of the oppositionists of that idea. That controversy was ended through our language movement of 1952. On the other side, after separation of Bengal in literature few literatures took initiative to establish coloqual form of Bangla language quitting Sanskrit with versatile use of Arabic and Farsi in replacement of the established and practised language form. Abul Mansur Ahmad was one of the initiators of that initiative. According to him the language of literature of Bangladesh was 'Kolkattia Bangla' but in lieu of that he wanted to establish 'Dhakaia Bangla', but it was not accepted and granted to the scholars or the educated. Thus the essay highlights the idealogical
