Revisions and disputes

Abstract The climax of the struggle with John Flamsteed coincided with a number of other crises in Newton’s life. On 5 May 1711 an angry confrontation with Craven Peyton, warden of the mint, signalled the deterioration of their relationship. Tension continued at a high level until the death of Anne in 1714 and the fall of the tory government, with which Peyton was allied, led to the appointment of a new warden. During the same period, beginning in this case in 1709, Newton engaged himself in a second edition of the Principia, which taxed his time and energy until its completion in 1713.
