Painting

View through Europeana Collections
The painting is shown in Bohushallen, Bohusläns museum. The motif is taken from Tubbeviken, Skärhamn. The artist’s daughter points out that Vera Nilsson did not rarely leave his works unsigned. Vera Nilsson has not himself given the work its title. This appears for the first time in Göran M. Silfverstolpe’s book about the artist and is possibly coined by him. The artist’s daughter tells in a letter about the painting: "Vera Nilsson “Sunkiss” 53 x 67 Harbour 1952 The poster “Sunkiss” in the middle of the residential landscape can raise questions with the viewer. It can be noted that Vera Nilsson painted “Memory from Africa” the same year. In the winter of 1949 - 50 Vera Nilsson lived in Senegal and the experiences from there put deep traces in her painting. In 1953 she was to begin work on the alfresco painting “Hands” in Eskilstuna with a central African motif. If it is an advertisement for African oranges or for a soft drink, the name Apels Solkyss has made her associate with Africa. Since the 30s, Vera Nilsson had begun to incorporate irrational elements in her painting, something that one might not generally associate with her paintings. Catharina Nilsson’.
