KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTH PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH HUMAN TRAFFICKING AMONG NNAMDI AZIKIWE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN ANAMBRA STATE

This study examined the knowledge of the health problems associated with human trafficking among undergraduate’s students in Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka. The sample of the study comprises of 100 undergraduate students in Nnamdi Azikiwe University. Three research questions guided the study. The instrument used for data collection was questionnaire titled knowledge of health problems associated with human trafficking among undergraduate students. The data collected analyses using are frequency and percentage scores. It was revealed that the causes of human trafficking are poverty; lack of economic opportunities, poverty, conflict and natural disasters, trafficking generates a large profit. The health problems associated with human trafficking are STDS, HIV/AIDS, and pelvic pain, pregnancy resulting from rape, malnourishment, infectious diseases, bruises, scars and other physical abuse. The knowledge level of the health problems associated with human trafficking among undergraduate students is high; the possible solutions to human trafficking includes health education on human trafficking, fundraising boycott products and companies that permit human trafficking, hold events to raise more awareness, help survivors. Based on the findings, the following recommendations were made: Government should ensure that law enforcement agencies are trained in anti-trafficking, provide support services to all types of trafficking survivors, increase funding to investigate more industries for labour trafficking. Conclusion was drawn and suggestion for further studies was emphasized.
