Analysis and Characterisation of Bioactive Agents in Tetracarpidium Conophorum

View through CrossRef
This study evaluated the bioactive compounds present in methanol extracts of raw African walnut (Tetracarpidium conophorum) using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). The analysis identified thirteen distinct chemical constituents, primarily consisting of esters, alcohols, hydrocarbons, and ketones. The most abundant compound was 9,12,15-octadecatrienoic acid (Z,Z,Z), followed by significant levels of 9,12,15-octadecatrienoic acid ethyl ester and 9,12-octadecadienoic acid (Z,Z). Other notable components identified include n-hexadecanoic acid, octadecanoic acid, and squalene. These findings highlight the rich profile of fatty acids and bioactive metabolites in African walnut, suggesting potential applications in nutrition and pharmacology.
