Chemical reactors are at the heart of most chemical processing facility. It is in these units that the reactants combine under controlled conditions to produce the desired chemical products. In this chapter we begin by considering the different types of chemical reactors including continuously stirred tank reactors, plug flow reactors, packed-bed reactors and fluidised-bed reactors. We then consider how we can model chemical reactions to help us to design reactors that are both efficient and safe.
