Comparative Efficacy of Ksheerbala Taila Greeva Basti Versus Ksheerbala Taila Matra Basti in the Management of Greevasandhigata Vata (Cervical Spondylosis): A Randomized Comparative Clinical Trial Protocol

In Ayurveda, Cervical Spondylosis is clinically comparable to Greevasandhigata Vata, a condition characterized by pain, stiffness, swelling, and restricted movement. Classical Ayurvedic management includes both external and internal oleation therapies. Greeva Basti (localized oil pooling therapy) and Matra Basti (oil enema therapy) are widely used interventions for Vata disorders, but comparative evidence regarding their efficacy is limited. Objective: This study aims to compare the efficacy of Ksheerbala Taila Greeva Basti versus Ksheerbala Taila Matra Basti in the management of Greevasandhigata Vata (Cervical Spondylosis). Methods: This will be a randomized comparative clinical trial conducted at the OPD and IPD of the Department of Panchakarma, CBPACS, New Delhi. A total of 64 participants will be enrolled and randomized into two groups. Group A will receive Greeva Basti with Ksheerbala Taila once daily for 10 consecutive days. Group B will receive Matra Basti with Ksheerbala Taila (72ml) once daily for 10 consecutive days. Outcomes will be assessed using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and Neck Disability Index (NDI) at baseline (day 0), day 10, and follow-up at day 30. Results: The primary results will assess changes in pain intensity and functional disability. Conclusions: This study will provide clinical evidence regarding the comparative effectiveness of external versus internal Sneha-based Panchakarma therapies for cervical spondylosis and may contribute to evidence-based integrative management strategies.
