Fishes of the Genus <i>Badis</i> Bleeker, 1853 in India with a Note on the Validity of <i>Badis triocellus</i> Khynriam & Sen, 2013

A checklist of the fishes of the genus Badis Bleeker, 1853 distributed in India has been prepared based on the present study and available literature. It includes a total of 18 species belonging to five species groups. Badis triocellus was previously regarded as a junior synonym of Badis singenensis by some workers. A comparative analysis has been conducted on the two species, reaffirming the current status of B. triocellus as a distinct species and its species group has been identified. The species group of Badis rhabdotus and Badis britzi has also been discussed. A key to the species of the genus Badis reported in India has been provided.
