In 1944, Valentina Dmitrievna entered the Kuibyshev Medical Institute, and in 1946 she was transferred to the Chisinau Medical Institute, which she graduated from in 1949. After completing her residency, she followed her husband, an officer, to the city of Kholmsk. From 1955 to 1957, she studied at the department of Academician of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences General Pyotr Andreevich Kupriyanov in Leningrad. It was in this team that Valentina Dmitrievna's scientific interests were formed - cardiovascular surgery, hemodynamics in emergency medicine and intensive care. Continuing these areas, in 1957, Valentina Dmitrievna returned to her homeland for postgraduate study in the Department of Faculty Surgery at the Kuibyshev Medical Institute, headed by Professor S. L. Libov, one of the founders of thoracic surgery in our country and a student of P. A. Kupiryanov. Three years later, Valentina Dmitrievna successfully defended her PhD dissertation on "Some Aspects of Surgical Treatment of Chronic Coronary Insufficiency" at the Gorky Medical Institute. Following S.L. Libov's forced departure from Kuibyshev, Valentina Dmitrievna facilitated the transfer of the promising vascular surgeon G.L. Ratner to the department. He later became the founder of the Kuibyshev scientific and pedagogical school of surgeons. Valentina Dmitrievna dedicated 11 years to the Department of Faculty Surgery, working in all surgical departments and heading the general surgical department. In 1971, she defended her doctoral dissertation on "The Effectiveness of Extracorporeal Circulation in the Treatment of Terminal Conditions with Hypotension." This work is a fundamental experimental and clinical study aimed at exploring perfusion options for human internal organs during balloon counterpulsation and extracorporeal circulation. In 1974, she was transferred to the position of Head of the Department of Operative Surgery and Topographic Anatomy at the Kuibyshev Medical Institute, a department that became Valentina Dmitrievna's life's work. Valentina Dmitrievna worked in this position for 25 years, improving the pedagogical and educational work at the department, introducing new things into the optimization and methodology of teaching operative surgery and topographic anatomy. Valentina Dmitrievna formed and headed a bright creative team. A lot of work was done to repair and equip the department with new diagnostic and special equipment; a special scientific and experimental operating room and a histological laboratory were created. One of the new scientific areas of the department was an in-depth study of artificial blood circulation, practicing the connection of the "artificial heart" and "artificial lung" devices, studying the features of the hydrodynamics of the aorta, pulmonary trunk and their branches, the state of microcirculation in vital organs. Valentina Dmitrievna and the team she led made a great contribution to the development of the theory of circulatory hydrodynamics and vascular tone regulation. Valentina Dmitrievna emphasized the importance of operative surgery and clinical anatomy as a dual discipline. She formed and implemented a new concept in the work of the department - the introduction of a unified teaching methodological system, the selection of educational information and the deepening of demonstrative teaching, a more complete organization of student independent work, and an improvement in the quality of classes. Professor Ivanova repeatedly presented reports at All-Union congresses, symposia and conferences, international congresses dedicated to current issues of cardiac surgery, resuscitation, and biomechanics in medicine. She was awarded the Honorary Diploma of the Presidium of the Central Board of the All-Union Scientific Medical and Technical Society. For 20 years, she was a member of the Problem Commission on Operative Surgery and Topographic Anatomy of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. She took an active part in the work of the commission on optimizing the teaching of the discipline, introducing active forms of training, organizing and holding conferences. In May 2000, she was one of the initiators of the organization of the Association of Clinical Anatomists of Russia. In 1982, she was elected a member of the Board of the All-Russian Scientific Society of Morphologists.
