Jerusalem - The Jewish University on the Mount of Olives [!].
View through Europeana Collections
A divided postcard containing a print from a black and white photograph showing the northwest corner of the Grey Hill Estate, the complex of the early Hebrew University buildings. At the center of the photograph is the Building of the Institute of Chemistry and Microbiology and on the roof of a black dome. The right corner of the image shows some of the auxiliary buildings used by the Grey Hill estate, which following their collapse in the 1927 earthquake were completely destroyed. From here it must be assumed that the original photograph was made before 1927. On the back of the postcard, instead of the stamp, it was noted that it was printed in Saxony and the name of the company that produced it: The Oriental Commercial Bureau, Port Said, Egypt. This postcard was not used and has no details as to the identity of the photographer or the date it was produced. On the back of the postcard was also printed in three languages: French, German and Yiddish. The headlines mistakenly mentioned the Mount of Olives as the home of the university. This postcard was donated to the collection in May 1976 by Avraham Ezra Milgram.
