Innovasjon i kulturskolen? Fem rektorers oppfatninger

View through CrossRef
ENGLISH ABSTRACT Innovation in the kulturskole? Five principals’ reflections This study explores the factors that hinder and promote innovation in the kulturskole [Voluntary municipal school for teaching art subjects], based on the perspectives of five kulturskole principals. The data consists of individual, semi-structured interviews with these five principals, where they were asked to reflect on their perceptions of the culture of innovation in the kulturskole. Through a qualitative content analysis of the data, interpreted in light of basic innovation theory, the following research question was addressed: What inhibiting and facilitating factors for innovation in the kulturskole emerge from the reflections of five kulturskole principals regarding opportunities for innovation in kulturskolen? Key findings indicate that the culture of innovation in the kulturskole appears to be characterized by weak implementation capacity, which may be linked to a dominant professional tradition that resists change and and a limited or underdeveloped culture for involving employees in development work. At the same time, the data highlights a significant untapped potential for originality and creative development within the kulturskole, leveraging the diverse and competent staff, as well as opportunities for structural reorganizations concerning subject portfolios, teaching methods, staff collaboration, and time management. In both the field of practice and research literature, innovation in the context of the kulturskole is often associated with the question of student recruitment. For this reason, market-oriented innovation seems particularly relevant for the kulturskole. This study contributes to this area of interest by foregrounding the concept of innovation.
Title: Innovasjon i kulturskolen? Fem rektorers oppfatninger
