ANALYSIS OF SOME PERSPECTIVE MAIZE HYBRIDS IN WESTERN ROMANIA

View through CrossRef
Maize (Zea mays L.), a plant with great economic value, occupies a large share in the food security of the population, this being a staple food, all over the globe, both in human and animal food. Quantitative genetics has contributed to the genetic progress of corn, thus creating forms with valuable production properties in interaction with technology and the culture environment. At the Agricultural Research and Development Station Lovrin, in Romania, 2 maize hybrids were created and the activity continues with new challenges. In this context, the paper aims to evaluate the variability of stasis grain production for a set of maize hybrids, obtained from inbred lines created at Agricultural Research and Development Station Lovrin, under the given conditions, in order to select valuable hybrids. The biological material used was represented by 20 hybrids of corn, perspective, created at Agricultural Research and Development Station Lovrin, cultivated according to the randomized block model, at a density of 50,000 plants per ha-1. The analyzed maize hybrids were grown in rotation with other crops and conventional cultivation practices were used. The comparative culture was sown on 08.04.2019 and the harvest was done on 12.09.2019. The production results show that, in 12 maize hybrids, the production of stas grains exceeds 10,000 kg.ha-1, the maximum value of 16217 kg.ha-1 being recorded in the hybrid V19-7059 which exceeded the average of the experience with 52.5%. Next, in the breeding process, corn hybrids will be selected according to other agrobiological and quality characteristics.
