Les auteurs décrivent la situation en France de la métrite contagieuse équine à Haemophilus equigenitalis pendant la saison de monte 1988.
Deux cent quinze souches ont été étudiées provenant d’animaux de toutes races à l'exception des pur-sang.
La mise en évidence du germe est souvent gênée par la présence d’autres germes pathogènes Klebsiella - Streptocoques, Staphylocoques, Colibacilles. La rapidité de mise en culture des prélèvements est primordiale, ainsi que le moment du prélèvement.
L’état physiologique des organes génitaux des étalons et des juments au moment de la monte est un facteur important dans le déclenchement de l'affection.
