Agrivoltaics for India's Net-Zero Vision: Integrating Policy, Technology, and Sustainability
View through CrossRef
Abstract. The demand for food and energy is increasing as the population and its associated needs continue to expand. In recent years, the scope of agrivoltaics has been growing and gaining popularity worldwide. Agrivoltaics is the term used to describe the practice of growing crops and generating solar energy on the same land. India has shown remarkable development in the field of agrivoltaics practices. India's largest agrivoltaics farm is in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, spanning 16 acres and generating 25,000 units of electricity, which is then fed into the grid daily. By incorporating well-defined design systems of solar panels over crops, studies have shown a 30% increase in crop yield in arid and semi-arid regions. Currently, there are about 25 active agrivoltaics projects in India. In India, numerous research studies are being conducted to provide a thorough analysis of the outcomes of implementing agrivoltaics.
