Plakat Spielstraße | Spiele der XX. Olympiade - 1972, München
View through Europeana Collections
The Olympic Games Street was developed for the Munich Olympics in 1972. Places were integrated into the sports landscape that allowed the open presentation of the actions of artists of all kinds of art (acting, visual art, music, film) in which everyone could participate.
Architect and urban planner Werner Ruhnau had the idea and took over the realization of the project. He was inspired by the ideas of “Homo ludens” by the philosopher Johan Huizinga. The program of the Spielstraße was stopped after the attack on the Israeli athletes.
Following the example of Munich, the so-called game line was created in Kiel, which hosted the sailing competitions in 1972.
Participating artists and others: Samy Molcho, Le Grand Magic Circus by Jérôme Savary, Anatol Herzfeld, Timm Ulrichs, Alexis Korner, Marionettenteatern Stockholm, Tenjo Sajiki, Het Werkteater Amsterdam, Kipper Kids London, Renate Göbel, Dorothy Iannone, Fritz Schwegler, Ben Vautier, Günter Weseler, Haus-Rucker-Co Düsseldorf/New York.
Herbert Schneider created the poster.
