Turismo Rural e Multifuncionalidade: O Caso do Roteiro Gastronômico Morro de Amores em Morro Redondo/RS
View through CrossRef
This study analyses the Morro de Amores tourist route, located in Morro Redondo/RS, highlighting the role of multifunctionality in rural properties for the development of rural tourism. The creation of the route, launched in 2014, emerged as an economic alternative for the municipality after losing a significant source of income in 2013. In partnership with the Rural Technical Assistance and Extension Service (EMATER) and the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (SEBRAE), the route was structured to integrate agricultural production with tourism activities, focusing on colonial cafés, restaurants, artisanal sweet producers, and wineries. Multifunctionality allows local families to diversify their sources of income while providing visitors with an authentic experience, enjoying rural landscapes, regional products, and local culture. Rural tourism has brought significant economic benefits to the community, generating jobs and increasing demand for local products. Moreover, it fosters social cohesion by involving families in tourism activities, strengthening collaboration between generations and encouraging the preservation of cultural traditions, especially through the learning by elder concept, where the knowledge and practices of older generations are passed on to younger generations and tourists. However, rural tourism development faces challenges, such as the need for improved infrastructure, workforce training, and access to sector-specific financing. Tourism seasonality also poses a limitation, requiring strategies to maintain visitor interest year-round. In conclusion, the Morro de Amores route exemplifies how multifunctionality and rural tourism can promote sustainable development while preserving local cultural identity and strengthening the economy.
