BIOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT OF THE QUALITY OF WATER FROM THE LISICE RESERVOIR USED FOR THE WATER SUPPLY OF THE CITY OF VELES

View through CrossRef
Lisiče is an artificial reservoir, part of the hydrosystem of the same name, located in the foothills of the Jakupica Mountain in the municipality of Čaška, in the immediate vicinity of the village of the same name. The surface area of the water is 1 km2, and with its 25 million m3, it is considered one of the medium-sized reservoirs in North Macedonia. It is fed by two rivers, Topolka and Vranovska. The lake primarily serves as a water supply for about 60,000 people from the municipalities of Veles and Čaška, as well as for irrigation. In the middle of the lake is the Water Tower, 70 m high, which is the tallest structure of its kind in the country. One of the tasks of the Hydrobiological Institute in North Macedonia is to determine the biological assessment of the water quality used for water supply and to evaluate the efficiency of filter fields in filtration stations, where surface water is utilized for the water supply of settlements.
